Strongman is a weightlifting based program where athletes train to press, pull, and lift. With a focus on strength, speed and conditioning, athletes can expect a well rounded program that can dramatically improve the demands of everyday life. Strongman is set apart from other weightlifting based programs with its use of strangely shaped objects, such as axle bars, logs, kegs, yokes, and atlas stones (to name a few).
Although it may seem like it’s only a sport for extremely strong individuals, anyone can train for (and compete in) Strongman. Strongman training has fantastic carryover to activities of daily living and other sports. Because it involves using less common implements, it allows one to develop strength throughout new ranges of motion in a smart and safe way. Our Strongman program is universally scalable for any level of participation.
Strongman training also has an exceptional carryover to manual labor, law enforcement, and firefighting professions. The training focuses on strengthening the posterior chain, and maintaining stability under load, which can aid in preventing work related injuries as well as building a durable and resilient body.

Classes are 60 minutes in length and will include a focus on Strongman implements. Training is varied and can include overhead pressing, deadlifting and moving, where one would push/pull/carry objects. Strongman classes follow a planned progression that considers the other classes at Body English so members can participate in multiple programs, for diverse and effective training. Athletes can expect:
- Thorough warm up and class/implement explanation
- Movement instruction and demonstration
- Movement correction and technique
- Workout tailored to your level

The Strongman programming track is complementary to our class offerings to allow athletes to have regular eyes on coaching.
Strongman competitions are fun, challenging and accessible to all levels of competitors. Every competition can vary wildly, and while some are more focused on testing pure strength, others are more focused on testing conditioning. Typically, competitions will have an overhead pressing event, a deadlift event, a moving event where you carry/push/pull objects, and the infamous Atlas Stones or Stone of Steel.
Competitions are divided up into weight categories, and most have novice divisions for first time competitors, and masters divisions for older athletes.
